Each spring for the past fifteen years, we have provided CSA members with 4 weeks of early vegetables. It has been exciting to see the early crops growing under the protection of unheated greenhouses, tunnels and row covers. Each year we try to extend the growing season as early and late as possible. There is something satisfying about the quality of cold loving plants grown in the cold. They have a sturdy look about them.
The Early Start CSA is a four-week share for those who are eager for early Spring vegetables. The season begins April 8th and ends April 29th. Our current calendar highlights the exact dates for each season.
As a member of Crawford Organics Early Start CSA your weekly will contain an assortment of in-season fresh vegetables. Each standard size box will contain 7 or 8 items. The quantities are designed for 2-4 people, depending on menu preferences. Each mini size box will contain 5 or 6 items in quantities for 1-2 people. The box may not supply all your vegetable needs, depending on your normal vegetable consumption.
In our farm share, there will be several fresh greens (lettuce, kale, chard, scallions, radishes, spinach, cilantro, etc), as well as some storage vegetables (potatoes, carrots, beets, sweet potatoes, etc.).
The following list gives you an idea of the crops we grow for the Early Start CSA. Some of these items you will find in your box frequently and others only once. Because we are working with living plants and the unpredictability of weather, there is no guarantee of the exact type or quantity of produce you will receive each week.
